About Ayer Hitam Ayer Hitam simply means Black Water. A lively town but full of goodies, Ayer Hitam is always bustling with passing vehicles and people who travels north and south. This place is well-known for its ceramic items such as flower vases in an assortment of colours, photo frames, jars, ashtrays, and other home decorative items. For a closer look, you can also watch the potters at work. Aside from quality souvenirs, Ayer Hitam is also dotted with many stalls selling local tidbits. Amongst the famous ones are prawn crackers, steamed corn, tapioca chips, and the all-time must-try “otak-otak”.

Ayer Hitam Motocross Circuit.

First day of Johor Motocross Master 08 in Ayer Hitam. This is the second year Ayer Hitam becoming host of this event.

Bigger turnout expected this year in Ayer Hitam. The number of competitors have also increased this year with 136 riders from all over the country having confirmed their entries. (more…)

Famed for Locally Made Dodol & Ceramic Ware

Slightly less than an hour by car north of Johor Bahru, along the North-South Highway, is Ayer Hitam. This is a transit town popular with travelers for its numerous roadside stalls hawking an array of knick-knacks, ceramic wares and local tidbits like prawn crackers, tapioca chips, steamed corn, etc. There are also several traditional coffee shops offering light snacks and refreshments. Close to the town is the famed Aw Pottery, maker of a wide range of potteries, ceramics, jars, pots, vases and home ornamental items.
