So you´re on vacation. Believe it or not, that doesn´t mean you have to splurge!

In Historic Philadelphia, you´ll find plenty of places where prices haven´t changed much since our Founding Fathers were milling about town.

And we have put an entire weekend itinerary together for you, a step-by-step guide full of budget-conscious meals, fun stuff for the family and even a few cost-effective cocktails.

Welcome to Philadelphia, “America´s best beer-drinking city.” To start your vacation on the right foot ? rather, the right barstool ? head to The Khyber, a charmingly gritty bar in the middle of 2nd Street.

This is a great spot to get a casual burger and fries, knock back a few local microbrews and catch an up-and-coming live act. And for authentic Philadelphia attitude, you really can´t do much better than The Khyber.

Just up the street is National Mechanics, a newer bar known for its gastropub-esque menu and quirky decor. Try a delicious salad or a gourmet burger ? everything is tasty and light on your wallet.

From Old City, it´s just a short, breezy walk down to Penn´s Landing where, on Friday nights, you can catch free concerts all summer long. Ranging from gospel to jazz to R&B, the music is family-friendly and the scenery ? the Delaware River to the east and the Philadelphia skyline to the west ? is pretty much unbeatable.

Extra credit: If you visit Philadelphia for a mid-week stay, you can get cinematic on Thursday nights in the Summer with Penn´s Landing´s free Screenings Under the Stars.

And if you visit during the colder months, lace up and skate at the Blue Cross RiverRink. This ice rink comes equipped with a heated pavilion, snack bar and lessons for the whole family.

Foster The People came together in late 2009 when Mark Foster met band mates Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus through mutual friends in the Los Angeles music scene. Foster hailing from Cleveland, OH had been writing and recording music since his youth but it wasn?t until the three members came together that Foster?s music for the bands upcoming debut release, Torches, was ready for friends to hear.

In early 2010, Foster The People posted their first song Pumped Up Kicks on the internet. Days later it was used to score a friend?s fashion video, days after that it showed up on Hype Machine and a year later it had seemed to make its way into the ears of millions of listeners around the world.

Almost immediately upon forming last October, the band gained a critical mass among regulars of West Hollywood notorious Viper Room, National Public Radio subscribers and even, erm, Mark Ronson. Blessed with a knack for melody, boogie-time beats, and an ornate electronic detail, Foster The People craft a sound ideal for a fantasy backyard barbecue with The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, MGMT and Daft Punk as guests.

One of the many concert venues in Philadelphia, this old movie theatre now serves up the latest, though not always the most renowned, musical acts in pop/ hip-hop culture. While equipped with a bar and bouncers with attitudes, there is also a balcony for the more “civilized” concert-goers. Artists ranging from Liz Phair to Transam have contributed their talents to TLA shows.

Great sound stage. (maybe the best in philly) generally good acts. a couple of incredible shows were the mars volta, isis, ministry and buckethead. the layout of the place is also pretty sweet. upstairs balcony if you do not want to be on the floor.

The International Taiko Festival, at San Francisco promotes an ancient art of Japan ? the Taiko drum. Japenese considered it a sacred instrument. It was used in ancient Japan to drive away evil spirits and pests which may harm crops. It was also used to invoke the rain god to bless the earth. After each bountiful crop the Taiko was again played as a symbol of joy.
With the rapid modernization of Japan, ancient arts like Taiko have taken a back seat and relegated to a pleasant memory. However, a cultural renaissance has been taking place in Japan ? a rediscovery of native arts. Today, every school child in Japan knows of Taiko. The drums are handmade by professional drum makers in Japan.
The most famous of these drums is the O-Daiko drum which is over 12 feet in height. It is regarded as a historical and cultural icon. Over the last decade Taiko enthusiasts, Seiichi Tanaka and the San Francisco Taiko Dojo have rediscovered Taiko from its primitive folk art roots to a powerful, sophisticated synthesis of rhythm, harmony, and body movement.
Today, at the festival a strenous, mental physical martial art training is harmonised with musical talent. Taiko Dojo, under the direction of Grand Master Tanaka, is a soul stirring experience. The performance is visual, audio, and visceral. The combination of traditional and contemporary rhythms, dance, and martial arts permeates your physical and spiritual being bringing lasting bliss.

Since 1886, the people of New York City have entered the mysterious and hallowed walls of Webster Hall and commenced in a notorious display of exhibitionism, consumption and debauchery. By the turn of the century, Webster Hall was known to many as The Devil Playground. This Halloween, 101 years later, the Devil rises to dance amongst the people for one very special night….

Monday, October 31st 2011…Webster Hall presents the official NYC Halloween Parade Afterparty. WEBSTER HELL is a once in a lifetime event. All 4 massive floors of Webster Hall transform into a twisted mausoleum filled with heart-pounding dance music. Sensual fire performances mesmerize the crowd as flying Vampires soar high over their heads in the Grand Ballroom. Thousands of revelers, hidden behind masks and disguised as freakish inversions of their former selves, eagerly attend what is hands down the biggest Halloween party in NYC every year.

Throughout the evening, guests witness a series of mind-blowing spectacles. At the stroke of Midnight, with flames blazing, an innocent virgin is picked from the crowd. Stripped of her clothing and dignity, the crowd watches as she is ritualistically sacrificed on a massive pentagram hung 40 feet in the air.
